Role Overview

Position: Consultant in Acute & General Medicine
Location: Major NHS Trust in Southeast England
Contract: Permanent | Full-time (10 PAs including on-call Rota)
 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead ward rounds on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and short stay wards

  • Manage acute admissions and oversee Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)

  • Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, and the wider MDT

  • Perform practical procedures and ensure safe, timely patient care

  • Participate in teaching, clinical governance, audits, and service improvement

  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to departmental strategy

  • Support service delivery and potentially develop a specialty interest (e.g., respiratory, critical care, endocrinology)


Teaching & Education

  • Deliver bedside teaching and support foundation, IMT, and undergraduate trainees

  • Engage in local teaching programmes and contribute to educational planning

  • Act as clinical and/or educational supervisor


Clinical Governance & CPD

  • Lead or participate in audit, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Attend regular governance meetings within the AMU

  • Take part in annual appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development


Essential Criteria

  • Full GMC registration with license to practise

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent

  • Broad-based acute/general medicine experience, including AMU

  • Commitment to clinical audit and evidence-based practice

  • Experience teaching medical staff and students


Desirable Criteria

  • Subspecialty interest that complements acute care

  • Previous consultant-level experience in AMU or ambulatory care

  • Evidence of educational leadership or curriculum design

  • Management training or NHS leadership experience

Locum Consultant Paediatrician – Diabetes +/- Endocrinology (12-Month Fixed-Term) 10 PAs + 5% On-Call Supplement A 12-month fixed-term opportunity is available for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in diabetes, and optionally endocrinology, to join a supportive and forward-thinking paediatric team. Role Overview: Participate in Consultant of the Week and twilight rotas. Cover night shifts (4 per 10-week cycle), with rest days either side. Conduct diabetes (4) and general paediatric clinics (up to 10) per 10-week cycle. Up to 6 endocrinology clinics and 4 joint clinics with a regional tertiary centre, depending on experience. The Team: You'll work with an experienced paediatric diabetes team, including specialist nurses and youth workers.   Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine An opportunity has arisen for experienced Consultants in Intensive Care Medicine to join a busy, 24/7 ICU service operating across two acute hospital sites in Lincolnshire. These full-time positions include 10 programmed activities per week, with part-time arrangements considered. Key Responsibilities: Provide high-level critical care within the ICU and support other departments with expert advice. Participate in a 24-hour on-call rota, including holiday and festive periods. Contribute to continuous service improvement and clinical leadership. Support multidisciplinary teamwork and uphold the highest standards of patient care. Person Requirements: GMC registration with a full licence to practice . Ability to work across sites and respond to emergencies within 30 minutes. Desirable: NHS experience, additional anaesthetic training, and ultrasound qualifications (e.g. FICE). Understanding of GPICS, Datix, and clinical governance.
