The Acute Medicine Unit runs as a Centre of Diagnostic Excellence, with senior decision-makers present throughout the day and a genuine commitment to GIM breadth alongside acute medicine. The unit covers 20 AMU beds with a fully integrated Medical SDEC, receiving patients directly from primary care, ambulance services and the Emergency Department. The unit delivers Level 2 intensive care locally, operating a stabilise and transfer model for complex Level 3 patients to the main site at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The post is supported by a resident SAS on-call team, a daytime ACCP service, and a Critical Care Outreach service. The unit covers a broad range of general hospital services including a busy Emergency Department, maternity, gynaecology, orthopaedic and trauma theatres, ophthalmology and ENT.
