Role Overview Position: Consultant in Acute & General Medicine Location: Major NHS Trust in Southeast England Contract: Permanent | Full-time (10 PAs including on-call Rota)   Key Responsibilities Lead ward rounds on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and short stay wards Manage acute admissions and oversee Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, and the wider MDT Perform practical procedures and ensure safe, timely patient care Participate in teaching, clinical governance, audits, and service improvement Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to departmental strategy Support service delivery and potentially develop a specialty interest (e.g., respiratory, critical care, endocrinology) Teaching & Education Deliver bedside teaching and support foundation, IMT, and undergraduate trainees Engage in local teaching programmes and contribute to educational planning Act as clinical and/or educational supervisor Clinical Governance & CPD Lead or participate in audit, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives Attend regular governance meetings within the AMU Take part in annual appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development Essential Criteria Full GMC registration with license to practise MRCP (UK) or equivalent Broad-based acute/general medicine experience, including AMU Commitment to clinical audit and evidence-based practice Experience teaching medical staff and students Desirable Criteria Subspecialty interest that complements acute care Previous consultant-level experience in AMU or ambulatory care Evidence of educational leadership or curriculum design Management training or NHS leadership experience    

We are looking for applicants to join an expanding team of Acute Medicine Consultants who are interested in progressing our journey of service development and innovative working within Acute Medicine. Acute Medicine works closely with the Emergency Medicine team and all Medical Specialities, and you will be involved in the development of clinical processes to improve patient outcomes and experience. The successful applicant, along with the other Acute Medicine Consultants, will be responsible for the care of patients on our Acute Medicine Unit and Acute Medicine Assessment Centre (Assessment and SDEC/Ambulatory care). You will be supported by a full multi-disciplinary team, which includes a junior medical team and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The Trust has a strong Medical Education department, and the post holder would have a significant educational role, particularly in educational supervision of our IMT doctors and students.  Applicants should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in Acute Medicine and we would entertain applicants seeking to work in Acute Medicine and another specialty.   Consultant Geriatrician (fixed term contract) A forward-thinking NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Geriatrician to join and further develop its evolving Frailty Unit within a dynamic Acute Geriatric Service. This new role addresses the growing demand for specialist, multidisciplinary care for older patients with complex needs. Key Responsibilities: Provide daily senior reviews on the frailty unit Opportunity to pursue special interests (e.g. pre-operative assessment, oncogeriatrics) Work alongside a team including ACPs, frailty-trained nurses, and junior doctors About the Service: The unit currently has 19 beds and is transitioning to a 16-bed model with 4 ambulatory chairs to support rapid assessment. The team is supported by experienced ACPs and a strong nursing workforce with frailty expertise. Acute Medicine Consultant  NHS Foundation Trust in Cheshire Fixed term (12 months) or Substantive 8.5 DCC & 2 SPA   A medium sized district general hospital in Cheshire is actively seeking a dedicated and dynamic Acute Medicine Consultant to join its esteemed team. Responsibilities: As an integral part of the Acute Medicine team, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional care to patients within the Acute Medical Unit which has 38 beds. Collaboration with a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, experienced nursing staff, physiotherapy and pharmacy services. Requirements: Extensive experience in Acute Medicine. GMC registration. Advantageous to be on the specialist register or due to complete CCT or CESR (in Acute Medicine or General Medicine with a special interest) within 6-12 months.
