Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Acute Medicine Doctor looking for a new opportunity? This post would suit a Doctor nearing the end of their specialist training and/or a doctor ready to step up looking to complete CESR.
In addition, the department can consider a highly experienced overseas Doctor.

This role also offers flexibility to combine Infectious Diseases with Microbiology or Acute Medicine, depending on your interests. On-call participation can be in Microbiology, Acute Medicine, or both.

✅ Essential Criteria
Primary Medical Qualification
GMC Registration (Specialist Registration not required)
Relevant Royal College Membership (or equivalent overseas qualification)
Substantial clinical experience in Infectious Diseases
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion and manage patient care independently
💡 Desirable
Experience in leadership, clinical guideline development, teaching, audit, research, and publication
Evidence of service development and change management

We are seeking a highly motivated Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the forward-thinking Acute Medicine team at Burton. This is a substantive role, offering the chance to contribute to service development, innovation, and delivery of excellent patient care within a dynamic NHS Trust.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality clinical care for patients admitted under Acute Medicine.
Participate in the acute take, including assessment and early management of acutely ill patients.
Contribute to the development of ambulatory care pathways and same-day emergency care.
Supervise, support, and train junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare staff.
Engage actively in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement projects.
Play a role in shaping and improving acute medical services within the hospital and Trust.
✅ Person Specification
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine OR within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview (with Specialist Registration by commencement date).
Consideration may also be given if evidence can be provided that the GMC is actively processing your Specialist Registration application (MUST be available before interview).
Proven NHS Consultant-level experience is desirable, but exceptional candidates nearing CCT will also be considered.
Strong leadership, teaching, and teamwork skills.
Commitment to service development and high standards of patient care.
