Consultant Hepatologist – Permanent Position
Location: York, UK
Job Type: Full-time | 10 PAs | No General Internal Medicine (GIM) on-call commitment


We’re working with a respected NHS Trust in the North of England seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Hepatologist to join their team.

Key Highlights:
  • Permanent Consultant post with a leading NHS Trust
  • Dedicated Hepatology role with no commitment to GIM on-call
  • 1:9 on-call Rota for General Gastroenterology and GI Bleed cover
  • Independent endoscopy practice required (upper GI essential; variceal surveillance, ERCP, and colonoscopy are advantageous)
  • Opportunity to engage with a Trust that holds Level 2 IQILS Accreditation
  • Strong clinical links with a regional Liver Transplant Centre
Essential Criteria:
  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP
  • On the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology & General Internal Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT/Portfolio Pathway (CESR) approval at the time of interview)
  • Proven independent experience in Hepatology at Consultant level
  • CV must reflect the required skills and experience
Desirable Criteria:
  • Substantive NHS experience
  • MD or equivalent higher degree
  • Evidence of relevant clinical research or academic interest
Additional Information:
  • This is a purely Hepatology-focused post, though there is a voluntary option to contribute to the GIM service if desired.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a Technical Panel (virtually) followed by an in-person Advisory Appointment Committee.
