About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a progressive NHS Trust within the Division of Surgery, Anaesthetics, and Critical Care.
This is a 10 PA post (8.5 Direct Clinical Care + 1.5 Supporting Professional Activity), offering a balance between clinical work, leadership, and development opportunities. The successful candidate will be based across the Trust’s main and secondary hospital sites, providing elective and trauma anaesthesia services.
You’ll be part of a supportive, forward-thinking department that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver safe, effective, and high-quality anaesthetic services across a variety of surgical specialties.

Participate in elective and weekend trauma sessions as required.

Contribute to service development, audit, and clinical governance initiatives.

Support teaching and supervision of trainees and junior medical staff.

Maintain active involvement in CPD and continuing medical education.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and safety.
Essential Criteria
-
Full and Specialist Registration (and Licence to Practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligibility within 6 months.

FRCA or equivalent qualification.

Completed specialist training or CESR in Anaesthesia.

Minimum 5 years of supervised anaesthesia training (SpR equivalent).

Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.

Proven ability to manage complex clinical workloads effectively.
Desirable
-
Experience in anaesthesia for high BMI patients.

Evidence of participation in teaching, audit, or research.

Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
