About the Role
Consultant in Acute Medicine | Substantive | Near Lancaster, North West England
Location: Furness General Hospital, Barrow-in-Furness, South Cumbria
Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 per annum
Contract: Substantive, permanent
Hours: 10 PAs per week | 8.5 DCC, 1.5 SPA, plus 1 PA for on call
On call: 1:11 non-resident
The role
A permanent Consultant post in Acute Medicine at a well-regarded NHS unit in South Cumbria. The Acute Medicine Unit runs as a Centre of Diagnostic Excellence, with senior decision-makers present throughout the day and a genuine commitment to GIM breadth alongside acute medicine.
The unit covers 20 AMU beds with a fully integrated Medical SDEC, receiving patients directly from primary care, ambulance services and the Emergency Department.
What you will be doing
- Managing acute medical admissions with a focus on timely assessment and discharge
- Supervising junior doctors and ANPs across AMU and Medical SDEC
- Supporting and advising the SDEC team day to day
- Teaching undergraduate medical students and junior doctors
- Participating in the consultant on-call rota
- Contributing to governance, audit and service development
What you will need
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Specialist Registration, or within 6 months of CCT or CESR at time of interview
- Broad experience in acute medicine and general internal medicine
- Ability to supervise junior doctors and medical students
- Evidence of audit involvement
- Enthusiasm for acute medicine in a diagnostic-focused environment
